Because the doves in Argentina are not migratory, the season is year-round. We are able to hunt doves every month of the year. These birds are so abundant that they can be harmful to farmers crops and harvests, making the hunting of them an important mitigation tool.
Hunting Weather by Season in Argentina
Argentina is one of South America’s top hunting destinations all year round. Some of the most popular types of hunting there include Red Stag, Asian Water Buffalo, Axis Deer, Blackbuck Antelope, Dove, Partridge, and Dorado fishing. There is never a bad time to plan a hunting trip to Argentina, however, it is important to consider…
US Dove Hunting Regulations
The United States has many opportunities for dove hunting, but in a very different way from Argentina. Many of the doves in the US are migratory, which makes for different seasons and bag limits. Each state has different limits and hunting regulations that must be followed.
Because most of the birds are moving, it means that there are only certain times of year where birds are present and available to hunt. This is different around the country, and there is an exception for the invasive Eurasian Collared Dove, which can be hunted year-round in some places.
Argentina Dove Hunting Regulations
With an extremely healthy population of doves that do not leave the country, Argentina does not have any bag limits or seasons. This allows hunters to take advantage of the excellent year-round hunting opportunities.
The high number of birds poses a threat to many of the crops, and hunters are welcomed by most farmers in the regions.
Hunting Locations and Environments
Dove hunting is a very broad activity, with hunts taking place in many places around the world. Many of these hunts are specific to certain times of year and conditions.
Typically, doves can be found in open areas with a food source like grain or other agricultural crops, a water source, and some type of trees or shrubs where they can roost and nest.
Top Dove Hunting Spots in the US
Dove hunting is a popular activity across the United States. While almost any state will have some dove hunting available, some really stand out.
Texas is the most well-known dove hunting spot in the U.S. with its large population of birds. Along with Texas, many other agricultural states are very good like Oklahoma, Alabama, Georgia, etc.

Many hunters will find their hunting spot and wait. They may also utilize decoys of different types to help with the hunt.

Common Practices in the US
In the US, it is important to understand the doves behavior in order to select a good hunting location. This will normally be near a field that has some type of food source, some water, and some gravel.
Nearby cover and structure of varying types will also be assessed where the birds will sit before entering a field. Hunters will want to be in the flight path and be ready to take their shots as the birds fly by.

Volume and Variety of Doves
Dove is a common term that covers several individual species that fall under the umbrella. Each variety has its own specific traits and locations they can be found. It is important to understand the differences.
Dove Species Commonly Hunted in the US
Although there are many types of doves in the United States, the two most hunted are the Mourning Dove and the Eurasian Collared Dove.
- The Mourning Dove is the most hunted migratory game bird in North America and has a large range across the United States. It is carefully managed with specific seasons and bag limits.
- The Eurasian Collared Dove is not a native species to the United States and is considered a nuisance species. In most states, they can be hunted year-round with no seasons, but the numbers do not approach the other dove types.
Dove Species Commonly Hunted in the South America
In South America, the most hunted dove species is the Eared Dove. The Eared Dove is a close relative of the Mourning Dove.
The Eared Dove extends across much of South America, and is highly abundant and resilient, making it an excellent hunting target. They feed mainly on seed and grain and are attracted to the agricultural fields of Argentina in huge numbers.
Cost and Accessibility
The cost and accessibility of dove hunts falls into a wide range depending on the experience a hunter is looking for. With so many options, it’s important to know the basics.
Expense of Hunting in the US
In the United States it is possible to hunt doves on your own, however, without specific local knowledge it would be very difficult to be successful.
Ranches will often charge a couple hundred dollars for a day hunt (sometimes this may only be an afternoon) and $1,000 or more for a package that includes lodging and meals – but not usually alcohol.
The hunts will be limited by the local bag limits and regulations.
