The Costs Associated with Hunting in Argentina

Pre-Trip Costs

Finding Your Package

First, choose your big game hunting package based on your desired destination and the species you are interested in hunting. The package descriptions will each lay out the itinerary, along with the expected trophy, accommodations, and dining. It will clearly list what each package includes, and what it does not include.

Based on this information, you can decide which package meets all your wants and needs. There is something for everyone, regardless of level of experience. Many packages even offer one-on-one guidance for those looking to get a few pointers and individualized training. Although this is a trip to enjoy the great outdoors, your stay will feel far from roughing it.

Many packages include a room at a deluxe lodge and 3 meals a day prepared by a private chef along with an open bar. The prices of packages vary, but to break it down per hunter for one of our favorite hunts, the Gold Medal Red Stag Hunting in El Carrizal, La Pampa, can range from $8,000 to $19,000 based on game size. This price range covers Gold Medal from 351” to 500”. For Red Stags over 500”, pricing will be provided upon request. A non-hunter companion can also come along for just $1,500.

Visa & Passport

U.S. Citizens

If you are a United States citizen, a visa is not necessary. However, you will need an up to date passport in order to travel in and out of the country. You can apply for your passport online or in person. In total, a new adult U.S. passport costs about $165 and $130 for a renewal. Be sure to allow at least 8-11 weeks for processing to ensure your passport is ready in time for your trip.

Non U.S. Citizens

Non U.S. citizens will additionally need a visa. Argentina now allows most countries to get an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) rather than having to obtain a paper visa. Similar to a passport, it is easiest to apply for a visa online. For the standard iVisa, it will take 10 to 16 days to process and will cost $235. A standard paper visa costs around $200 but is more difficult to acquire yourself.

Local Adventures Outside of SAAS

While you are in the beautiful country of Argentina, you may want to venture out on a few non-hunting related excursions. Many of our hunters have thoroughly enjoyed visiting local attractions such as Iguazu Falls, which lays on Argentina’s border with Brazil. Buenos Aires is also a huge attraction with its famous cities of Recoleta, La Boca, and Tango. Here you find museums, public gardens, art galleries, boutique shops, and cafes. Argentina is known for its excellent food and wine, along with music and dancing. Read our blog about the weather in Argentina to get ideas for the time of year you decide to visit.

Shipping your trophy home will entail a few extra costs. The package already includes the trophy fee for one Gold medal red stag (or whichever species you signed up for) class according to the package price. Currency in Argentina

In Argentina, the currency is called Argentine pesos, or ARS. The symbol for pesos is the same as the dollar sign, so be careful not to get confused. Usually, when something is written in US dollars in Argentina, there will be a ‘U’ before the dollar sign. One Argentine peso is worth much less than one dollar. In fact, one US dollar is equivalent to 110.18 Argentine pesos. Two decades ago, the Argentine peso was on par with a US dollar, but inflation in Argentina has caused a large gap to form between the two.

2023 Update

Overall, the costs associated with hunting in Argentina have seen a slight bump in 2023. This increase is seen in a few small places such as paying a few more dollars for shotgun shells and an increase in pricing regarding proper import of firearms into Argentina. Similarly, flights to Argentina have slightly increased in price. Round trips from JFK in New York to Argentina now start at around $900, which is about an $150 increase in the base price for this round trip flight in recent years. What’s more, the general pricing for hunting permits in Argentina have increased about $100 in recent years to a start of $500 for an annual license. That being said, inflation continues to kill the value of the Argentine peso. Decades ago, the Argentine peso and the US dollar were on par with each other, but now a USD is worth about 250 pesos, which is more than double the conversion rate just a few years ago.
